PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS, AND PRIOR TO RETAIL DELIVERY.

SUBJECT
Service Action: Install Bracket for Air Conditioning System Pressure Line

MODEL
E92 (3 Series)

SITUATION
The pressure line for the air conditioning compressor to condenser may develop a leak, resulting in a loss of refrigerant, poor air conditioning performance, and possible compressor damage.

CAUSE
The pressure line for the air conditioning compressor to the condenser may leak as a result of vibrations over the course of time.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves E92 (3 Series) vehicles which were produced from May 15, 2006 to August 10, 2006.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

PROCEDURE
Install an additional support bracket for the pressure line at the air conditioning compressor as follows:

1. Remove the left-side charge air duct. Refer to Repair Manual instructions RA 64 52 521 or RA 11 61 368.





2. Install the bracket (1) to the pressure line and secure to the air conditioning compressor using the M5x12 screws (2). Tightening torque: approximately 7.6 Nm.

3. Reinstall any previously removed components.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 476 After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-295) and:

a. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

b. punch out code number 476 printed on the label and,





c. affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.

Reimbursement for this Service Action will be via normal claim entry utilizing the information shown.
