SUBJECT
Service Action: Replace Roof Shell Trim Strips
MODEL
E93 (3 Series Convertible)
SITUATION
The trim strip on the center roof shell may absorb moisture causing the ends of the trim strips to deform.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves E93 3 Series Convertibles which were produced up to January 22, 2007.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

PROCEDURE
1. Open all windows.
2. Place the retractable hard top (RHT) in the position indicated by the illustration to gain access to the clips securing the trim strips (1).
3. Remove the remote control from the ignition lock.
4. Carefully open and remove the two inner clips from the front side of the trim strip.
5. Loosen the trim strip from the RHT linkage.
6. Remove the two outer clips from the trim strip and install them on the new trim strip.
7. Install the new trim strip to the RHT linkage. While installing, slot the two springs onto the outer clips.
8. Move the trim strip into its final position and install the two inner clips.
9. Repeat this procedure for the opposite side trim strip.
PARTS INFORMATION
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 490. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-320) and:
a. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
b. punch out code number 490 printed on the label and,
c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
