SUBJECT
Water Leaks into the Sides of the Luggage Compartment

MODEL
E93 (3 Series Convertible) produced up to 9/11/07

SITUATION
Traces of water may be found in the sides or toward the front of the luggage compartment.

CAUSE





The convertible top cover seal (1) may not be properly sealed to the body at the outside corner.

CORRECTION
Additional sealant between the seal and the body surface needed.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the convertible top cover seal per repair instruction RA 51 71 ...

2. Apply butyl to the channel of the seal, from the corner on one side across to the opposite corner of the seal.

NOTE:
Alternatively, WURTH Black Weatherstrip Adhesive may be used.

3. Install the convertible top cover seal per repair instruction RA 51 71 ...

4. Water test the area to ensure a proper seal.

PARTS INFORMATION

WURTH Black Weatherstrip Adhesive, Article # 08905401 may be used in place of 3 mm Butyl tape.

Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Please refer to the latest KSD for all applicable labor operations and allowances.

If the appropriate labor operation is not contained in KSD, then a work time labor operation should be used.

A sublet charge in the amount of $9 may be made to sublet code 4 for Butyl tape used in this procedure.
