Campaign - Luggage Compartment Warning Labels

PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.

SUBJECT
Service Action: Install Luggage Compartment Labels

MODEL
E93 (3 Series Convertible)

SITUATION
The side areas of the luggage compartment are not intended for the storage of objects when the retractable hardtop (RHT) is opening. If an object is present in either of these areas when the RHT is opening, the RHT may not open fully, or damage may occur to either the RHT or the object itself. On the vehicles concerned, the existing warning label located on the luggage partition must be replaced, and supplemented with 2 additional warning labels located in each of the side areas.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves all E93 3 Series Convertibles which were produced up to March 10, 2007.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

PROCEDURE

1. Lower the luggage partition in the center of the luggage compartment.

2. Remove the existing warning label from this partition and remove any remaining adhesive residue.





3. Affix the new warning label to the partition in the same location from which the previous one was removed (1).





4. Install one label to each of the side areas as shown in the illustration. The correct location is A=60mm from the outside edge of the side area, and B=105mm from the front edge of the side area.

This Service Action has been assigned code number 496. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-320) and:

a. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

b. punch out code number 496 printed on the label and,





c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
