SUBJECT
Outside Door Handles Hanging up in the Pulled Position

MODEL
E90, E91, E92, E93 (3 Series) produced up to 05/07

E70 (X5) produced up to 05/07

SITUATION

After pulling up the outside door handle[s] (1) and then releasing, the handle may remain in the pulled position. In some instances, the handle will retract partially but still not sit flush.

CAUSE
The outside door handle was not manufactured within tolerance specifications and the spring force in the handle is not great enough.

CORRECTION

^ The door handles are now being manufactured to design specifications.

^ The handle carrier has increased spring force to more effectively pull it to the flush position.

PROCEDURE

On a customer complaint basis, replace the appropriate door handles as noted below.

If the sticking door handle is not a Comfort Access handle:

^ Replace all the door handles on the vehicle which do not have Comfort Access (option 322).

^ NOTE: Depending on the model, either 2 or 4 handles will be replaced.

If the sticking door handle is a Comfort Access handle:

^ Replace the affected Comfort Access handle[s].

^ Replace all door handles on the vehicle which are not Comfort Access handles.

^ NOTE: Depending on the model, there could be no additional handles (E92, E93, and E70), or 2 additional handles (E90 and E91).

NOTE:
These updated door handles, with or without Comfort Access, are now available as coded, prepainted parts.
