Important: After installation:
^ Check output shaft for correct seating in final drive.
^ Carry out wheel alignment check.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Remove wheel.
^ Remove lip.
^ Disconnect ABS line.
If necessary, disconnect lead for wear indicator.
Release both holders for brake hose on trailing arm.
Important: The brake hose must not be exposed to traction loads.
Mark position of bearing pedestal (1) to body (2) with colored mark (3); this simplifies subsequent toe-in adjustment.
Support trailing arm from underneath using a workshop lifter.
Release bolts, lower workshop lifter and pull trailing arm downwards.
Note: Damaged threads in body-side sleeves can be repaired with M 12x 1.5x 18 Helicoil thread inserts. Install Helicoil thread inserts so that they are flush with original thread.
Release nut, unscrew bolt and remove bearing pedestal.
Installation:
With special tool:
Secure special tool 33 3 280 to bearing pedestal with a screw and align to wheel center. Screw bearing pedestal down in this position.
Installation:
Without special tool:
Place a tube (1) (length = approximately 500 mm, dia. = 16 mm) flat on bearing pedestal, secure with bar clamp and align tube center to wheel center. Screw bearing pedestal down in this position.
Pull out rubber mount with special tools 33 3 144 / 33 3 145/33 3 222/33 3 227/33 3 228 and M12 nut (1).
Position special tool 33 3 228 so that that arrow on special tool points in withdrawal direction.
Mark trailing arm eye as shown in sketch with dot of paint (K).
Rubber mount and trailing arm eye must be free of grease.
A slot in the rubber mount must line up with the end of the arrow on the special tool!
Insert rubber mount in special tool 33 3 228.
Arrow on special tool must point to colored spot (K)!
Install rubber mount with special tools 33 3 144/33 3 145 / 33 3 222 / 33 3 227 / 33 3 228 and M12 nut (1) until special tool 33 3 228 is slack.
Remove special tool 33 3 228.
Install rubber mount to measurement (A) = 2 5 mm.
