Replacing Two Rubber Mounts For Rear Axle Carrier (Rubber Mounts, Front)

33 33 101 Replacing two rubber mounts for rear axle carrier (rubber mounts, front)

Special tools required:
^ 33 3 314
^ 33 3 315
^ 33 3 371
^ 33 3 372
^ 33 3 373
^ 33 4 140
^ 33 4 142
^ 33 4 147
^ 33 4 155
^ 33 4 410

Important: After installation:
^ Carry out wheel alignment check.
^ Check seating of spring pads in control arms.

Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Remove left and right tension struts.
^ Remove compression strut.
^ Detach propeller shaft from final drive.
^ Detach stabilizer bar from rear axle carrier.
^ Release handbrake cables on handbrake lever and pull out of rear axle carrier.





Release both holders for brake hose on left and right trailing arms.





Support final drive with transmission lifter and special tool 33 4 410.
Make sure there is clearance between special tool 33 4 410 and dust sleeve (1).
If the dust protection sleeve (1) is damaged or bent, it may come into contact with the flange -> noise!
Lower rear axle carrier.





Unfasten screws.


Note: Damaged threads in body-side sleeves can be repaired with M 12x 1.5x 18 Helicoil thread inserts. Install Helicoil thread inserts so that they are flush with original thread.





Note: If necessary, replace damaged threaded bolts.

Assemble special tools 33 4 140 with 33 4 142 and 33 4 147.





Place special tools 33 4 140/33 4 155 and 33 3 371/33 3 372 on openings of rubber mount and make sure they are correctly supported on bushing of rear axle carrier.
Secure top of spindle with standard M 12 nut (1).

Important:
Do not direct air flow at fuel tank.
Heat bearing bushing for approximately 2 minutes with a hot air blower to max. 600°C outlet temperature (corresponds to approximately 80°C of bearing bushing).
Remove rubber mount.





Installation:
Front rubber mounts differ:
Rubber mount VR = front right with elongated hole (1)
Rubber mount VL = front left
Arrows (2) on rubber mount must point in longitudinal direction of vehicle.





Coat new bearing (1) with Circolight, refer to BMW Parts Service and draw in with special tools 33 3 314/33 3 315/ 33 3 372/33 3 373 as far as it will go.
