Removing And Installing Rear Left Or Right Door Window


CAUTION: The "Window cementing instructions" serve as the basis for this repair instruction and must be observed without fail.


Remove headliner.
Remove mount for window cavity cover strip, inside.


CAUTION:
Cover rear side panels with protective covers.
Tape off body on inside around side window with fabric adhesive tape.
If necessary, disconnect plug connections.
Secure connector and cable to side window with adhesive tape (danger of damage).

When reusing the side window:
If necessary, tape off all antenna wires on door window with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).







Due to different position of adhesive bead:
Adjust blade starting roller differently in areas (A) to (D) (risk of damage).







Cutting depths for areas (A) to (D):
Fit straight blade with adjustable starting roller (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) on tool.

Adjusting length (X):
Area (A) Length (X) = 20 mm
Area (B) Length (X) = 24 mm
Area (C) Length (X) = 22 mm
Area (D) Length (X) = 35 mm


NOTE: Prior to each use, regrind the blade with a grinding stone while the machine is running (new blades also).







A scalpel (1) (for heavy-duty applications) is used for the area (D) of the C-pillar.

Cutting depth for area (C):
Area (C) bottom approx. 44 mm







Carefully insert knife blade between body and door window seal.
Guide blade parallel to door window seal. Cut through glue bead as close to body as possible.







CAUTION:
Do not press down too hard on scalpel (risk of damaging the PVC spray-coating).
Carefully cut through adhesive bead with a scalpel in area of C-pillar.
During the cutting procedure, a 2nd person must pull the window at the rear outwards at special tool 51 3 010.
Remove window with special tool 51 3 010.


Overview of door window bonding (E53):







Attach special tool 51 3 010 to tool trolley. Moisten suction surfaces and secure side window.
When reusing old side window, remove residual adhesive to 0.5 mm.
Almost vertical part (B) of adhesive bead (1) must face PVC spray coating (5).
Spread adhesive bead (4) with special tool 00 9 322.







Fit door window with special tool 51 3 010 at bottom. Chrome strip (1) must be flush at front with body edge (2).
Move door window at top (1) and slide fully towards rear (2).
Close rear door.
If necessary, adapt door window to rear door.
Fix door window in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).
