Replacing Radial Shaft Seal For Output Flange

Important! After completion of work, check transmission oil level and top up if necessary.
Use only approved transmission oil in this transfer case.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Remove exhaust system.
^ Detach propeller shaft at transfer case.
Secure output flange with special tool 23 0 020.
Release nut (1) with special tool 23 2 320.
Tightening torque:
Output Flange: E53 (NV125) = 110 Nm.
Output Flange: E53 (LWX 500) = 300 Nm.
Collar nut must be installed with Loctite 270 or Hylogrip bolt cement.
Installation:
Replace nut (1).
Secure nut (1) at points (2).
Note: Illustration shows E53.
Remove drive flange with special tool 33 1 150.
Drive a hole into radial shaft seal (2) using a center punch (1). See illustration.
Important! Do not use a drill as drillings may result in transmission malfunction.
Install special tool 23 0 490.
Drive out radial shaft seal (1) with impact weight (2).
Drive in radial shaft seal with special tool 271 380.
Installation:
Radial shaft seal must rest flush on housing.
Add final details to vehicle.
Check oil level.
Check transmission for leaks.
