Replacing Radial Seal For Drive Flange of Differential (Front)
Note:
After completing work, check front axle differential fluid level.
This operation is described in "Removing and Installing Front Axle Differential", refer to Differential Assembly, Service and Repair.
Use only the approved gear oil in this front axle differential.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the differential!
Remove and install front propeller shaft.
Lift out retaining plate (1).
Mark position of nut with respect to shaft with punch marks.
Brace drive flange with special tool 23 0 020 and release nut.
Pull drive flange off drive shaft with special tool 33 1 150.
Use a screwdriver (2) to lever radial seal (1) out of front axle differential housing.
Drive radial seal firmly home with special tool 31 5 130.
Note:
Coat sealing,lips of new radial seal (1) with gear oil.
Clean drive flange and attach.
Tighten down nut until punch marks on nut and shaft match up.
Install new retaining plate.
Caution:
Do not tighten nut beyond punch marks. This would damage clamping sleeve.
