Rear Shock Absorber (33 52 000)
33 52 000 Removing and installing/replacing rear left or right shock absorber
Important!
Remove fuse of air supply system to prevent the air spring system from being controlled inadvertently.
Note:
Read and comply with Information on replacing shock absorbers.
Installation note:
1. All screws, nuts, bolts and hose clamps removed during the repair must be replaced.
2. Retaining elements on chassis and suspension and steering parts must be replaced.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove rear wheel
- Deactivate and drain air spring system
Important!
- Before tightening screw connection, check that shock absorber pin is correctly positioned in swinging arm.
- Screw must not be used as a fitting aid to installing the shock absorber!
- Release nut and remove screw.
Important!
- Secure shock absorber against falling out.
- Remove shock absorber from swinging arm and tie back.
Installation note:
- Replace self-locking nut.
- Tightening torque 33 52 1AZ.
Take out luggage compartment floor trim panel.
Left side of vehicle:
Release nuts and expanding rivets.
Remove side member facing.
Installation note:
Replace expanding rivets.
Right side of vehicle:
Release nuts and expanding rivets.
Remove side member facing at front and rear.
Installation note:
Replace expanding rivets.
Important!
Risk of damage!
Brake hose must not be exposed to tensile loads.
Release nuts and remove shock absorber downwards.
Installation note:
Replace self-locking nuts.
Tightening torque 33 52 3AZ.
Replace faulty sealing washer (1).
Refit sealing washer (1).
Replacement:
Remove support bearing.
Remove support cup (1) and auxiliary absorber (2) with gaiter (3) from rear shock absorber (4).
Assembly note:
Check support bearing, auxiliary absorber (2) and gaiter (3) for damage, replace if necessary.
After installation:
- Activate and fill air spring system
