Tie Rod Boot: Service and Repair


Replacing bellows for steering gear on left or right

Caution:
Clean rack and steering tie rod.
If polished surface of rack is damaged (rust), steering gear must be replaced.
Grease toothed area of rack,
refer to Service Operating Fluids.

If necessary, remove engine underguard at side.





Mark screw-in length of tie rod (2) (chalk mark) - simplifies later adjustment of toe-in.
Release both ear clips.
Slacken lock nut (1).
Screw tie rod (2) out of tie rod end.
Remove gaiter.
Fit new gaiter with ear clips.
Screw tie rod (2) into tie rod end.

Caution:
Front axle must be aligned and adjusted, refer to Alignment, Service and Repair.
