Positive Lead (Starter, Alternator, Positive Support Point)

Removing And Installing Or Replacing Battery Positive Lead (Between Starter Motor, Alternator And Battery Positive Support Point) (M62)

Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit.
Switch off ignition.
Observe safety instructions for handling vehicle battery.

Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery.

Disconnect negative battery lead.

Remove reinforcement plate.


CAUTION: The work step "Removing and installing reinforcement plate" contains important installation instructions.







Release screws.
Remove underbody paneling (1).







Remove protective cap (1) of battery positive lead from starter motor.
Release nut (2).

Disconnect battery positive lead from starter motor.
Unclip battery positive lead from holders.







Unclip battery positive lead from holders (1) on upper oil sump section.







Release nut (1).
Disconnect battery positive lead (2) from alternator.








Turn fasteners on acoustic cover 90° counterclockwise.
Remove acoustic cover.







Release cable ties (1).







Remove sealing caps on cover of ignition coils on left.
Release nuts.
Remove cover on ignition coils on left.







Installation Note: Check profile seal (1) for damage and correct seating, replace if necessary.







Release nut.
Fold down protective cap (1).







Release nut (2).
Tightening torque, Battery positive connection point in engine compartment 10 Nm.
Remove battery positive lead from positive support point for jump starting.


NOTE:
Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit.
Check stored fault messages.
Rectify faults.
Now clear the fault memory.
