Failure to comply with the following instructions may result in the vehicle slipping off the lifting platform and critically injuring other persons
Read and observe the information on load distribution in the lifting platform operating instructions.
Before lowering/ removing the rear axle carrier, it is essential to place a minimum load of 100 kg in the the luggage compartment to prevent the vehicle from toppling/ slipping off the lifting platform!
When supporting components, make sure that:
- the vehicle can no longer be raised or lowered
- the vehicle does not lift off the locating plates on the lifting platform
Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Version with ride-height control: Deactivate air suspension system and reduce pressure
- M54, M67: Remove rear muffler
- M57, M57TU, N62: Remove exhaust system
- Release heat shield in rear area
- Remove handbrake Bowden cables from holders
- Remove shock absorber from swinging arm

When supporting components, make sure that:
- the vehicle can no longer be raised or lowered
- the vehicle does not lift off the locating plates on the lifting platform
If necessary, position special tool 00 2 040 with a 2nd person helping on workshop jack 00 2 030.
Insert special tools 33 4 221 and 33 4 226 into corresponding mountings of special tool 00 2 040.
Align special tool 00 2 040 to rear axle carrier.
If necessary, lower special tool 33 3 274.
Support rear axle carrier by raising special tool 00 2 030.
Release screws on both sides and remove stop plate.
Lower rear axle carrier.
Installation:
Check threads for damage; if necessary, repair with Helicoil thread inserts.
Check seating of coil springs with spring pads, correct if necessary.
After Installation:
- Version with ride-height control: Activate and fill air suspension system
