Replacing Power Steering Gear


Caution!
Make sure all parts are absolutely clean.
No dirt is allowed to enter the system.
Seal off pipe connections with plugs.

Recycling:
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.
Draw hydraulic fluid out of tank and do not reuse.

Installation:
Bleed power steering system.

If necessary, remove front wheels.
Unscrew and remove splash guard.





Release nut and remove tie rod on left and right with special tool 32 3 090.

Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
Hex screw on bearing block for adjustment of steering wheel
Self locking nut 3.0 Nm
Note:
1. Tighten nut hand tight (adjusting lever in clamped position)
2. Open and close lever.
3. Tighten nut 4.0 Nm
4. Open and close lever.
5. Tighten nut 4.8 Nm
6. Open and close lever
7. Tighten nut 4.8 Nm





Release banjo bolts.

Installation:
Replace sealing rings.
Observe freedom of movement of lines to fixed body parts noises.
Hydraulic line connections to vane pump and steering gear
M10 Banjo bolt 12 Nm
M14 Banjo bolt 35 Nm
M16 Banjo bolt 40 Nm
M18 Banjo bolt 45 Nm
Cap screw 36 Nm






Caution!
There will no longer be an end stop once the steering spindle has been separated from the steering gear. The steering wheel can be turned without restriction.
In order to avoid damaging contact ring in steering column:
Turn steering wheel to straight-ahead position (markings on cap (1) and on housing (2) must be aligned).
Engage steering lock -> remove ignition key.

Remove clamping screw and force disk joint off steering gear.

Installation:
Move steering gear to middle position (markings on cap (1) and on housing (2) must be aligned) and push on joint disk.
Replace clamping screw.
Universal joint/coupling to steering gear/steering spindle 24 Nm
Note: Replace Clamping Screw





Unscrew bolts and take off steering gear in forward direction.

Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
Steering gear to front axle carrier
M10 42 Nm
