Engine Mount: Service and Repair
Important before you start read Service and Repair
Replacing Right Engine Mount (N62)
Secure engine in installation position
Release both engine mounts from above.
Remove front splash guard.
Remove both front wheels.
Remove reinforcement plate.
Lower front axle support.
Release screw connection for engine mount at bottom right.
Remove engine mount towards front.
Installation:
Lug (1) of engine mount must point to middle of vehicle.
Engine mount designations:
Right engine mount:
Even component number
Left engine mount:
Odd component number
22 11 110 Replacing left engine support arm (N62)
Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Remove exhaust system.
^ Remove front axle differential.
^ Remove and install left exhaust manifold.
Release screws (1).
Release screws (2) and nuts (3).
Remove engine bracket.
Engine mount to engine support arm E60
/E61/E63/E64/E65/E66/E67/E53/E83/E87 M10 / 10.9 56 Nm
E65 / E66 / E67 M 12 10.9 100 Nm
E85 / E52 42 Nm
Replacing right engine mount (M54)
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Secure engine in installation position.
- Release engine mounts on left and right from above.
- Remove reinforcement plate.
- Remove underbody protection.\
- Unfasten nut.
Tightening torque
(E85) 42 Nm.
(E60 / E65 / E66 / E67) M8-8 19 Nm
(E53) M8 10.9 30 Nm
(E83) M8 21 Nm
- Remove right engine support arm from engine block.
- Remove engine mount.
Installation:
- Fit heat shield for engine mount.
- Lug (1) of heat shield must rest in corresponding bore (2) of engine mount.
- Installation position of engine mount predetermined by locating pin (3). Pin (3) is in direction of travel at front.
Replacing right engine support arm (M54)
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove right engine mount.
- Release grounding strap (1) from engine support arm.
- Remove right engine support arm from engine block.
Tightening torque support arm.
(E65 E66 E67) M10 8.8 38 Nm
(E65 E66 E67) M8 8.8 19 Nm
(E85 E83) M8 8.8 21 Nm
(E53 with N62 or M54) 38 Nm
Replacing left engine mount (M54)
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Secure engine in installation position.
- Release engine mounts on left and right from above.
Tightening torque mount to front axle
(E85) 42 Nm.
(E60 / E65 / E66 / E67) M8-8 19 Nm
(E53) M8 10.9 30 Nm
(E83) M8 21 Nm
- Remove reinforcement plate.
- Remove underbody protection.
- Unfasten nut.
- Partially release screws from engine support arm to engine block until engine support arm can be tilted upwards.
Tightening torque support arm.
(E65 E66 E67) M10 8.8 38 Nm
(E65 E66 E67) M8 8.8 19 Nm
(E85 E83) M8 8.8 21 Nm
(E53 with N62 or M54) 38 Nm
- Remove engine mount.
Installation:
- Installation position of engine mount predetermined by locating pin (3). Pin (3) is in direction of travel at front.
- Heat shield is only present on right engine mount!
Replacing left engine support arm (M54).
- Necessary preliminary tasks: Remove left engine mount.
- Release screw (1).(Tightening torque, 11 43 1AZ).
- Remove left engine support arm from engine block.
Tightening torque support arm.
(E65 E66 E67) M10 8.8 38 Nm
(E65 E66 E67) M8 8.8 19 Nm
(E85 E83) M8 8.8 21 Nm
(E53 with N62 or M54) 38 Nm
- Guide tube for oil dipstick (1AZ M8 22 Nm).

3AZ Reinforcement plate to front axle support/engine
E46 without AWD / E85 Replace screws Release screw (4).
- Release screws (1) and nut (3) and remove tension strut (2).
Installation:
- Replace screws (1) and nut (3).
- Insert screws (1).
- Tighten down screws (1) to torque and then to angle of rotation, carrier Jointing Torque 59 Nm Torque angle 90°
4AZ Tension strut in engine compartment
E85 Jointing torque 30 Nm Torque angle 90°

New component / initial screw connection 24 Nm
