Front Mounts


Replacing Two Rubber Mounts For Rear Axle Carrier
Rubber Mounts, Front

Caution: After installation, adjust axle.

Check seating of spring pads in control arms.

Detach stabilizer bar from rear axle carrier.

Compact:
Remove inflatable spare tire holder.

If necessary, remove tension strut.

Remove exhaust.

Remove heat protection shield above exhaust.

Remove tension strut.

Remove panel from fuel tank on left.

Detach propeller shaft from final drive.

Detach handbrake cables from handbrake lever and remove from rear axle carrier,
Refer to MG 34.





Detach bracket for brake hose on trailing arm on left and right.





Prepare transmission lifter with special tool 33 4 390:

Remove snap rings, withdraw bolts and remove adjusting plate (1).





Support final drive with transmission lifter and special tool 33 4 390.

Observe distance between special tool 33 4 390 and dust protection sleeve (1). If the dust protection sleeve (1) is damaged or bent, it may come into contact with the flange noise!





Unfasten screws.

Installation:
Tightening torque, 33 33 3AZ





Note: Damaged threads in bushes on body side can be repaired with Helicoil thread inserts M 12 X 1.5 X 18. Install Helicoil thread inserts so that they are flush with original thread.

Note: If necessary, replace damaged threaded bolts.

Installation:
Tightening torque 33 33 2AZ.

Note: Damaged threads in bushes on body side can be repaired with Helicoil thread inserts M 12 X 1.5 X 18. Install Helicoil thread inserts so that they are flush with original thread.





Lower rear axle carrier.

Assemble special tool 33 4 140 with 33 4 142 / 33 4 147 / for compact 33 4 211.





Place special tools 33 4 140 / 33 4 155 and 33 3 371 / 33 3 372 on openings of rubber mount and make sure they are correctly supported on bushing of rear axle carrier.

Secure top of spindle with standard M 12 nut (1).

Caution: Do not direct air flow at fuel tank. Using a hot air blower with a maximum outlet temperature of 600°C, heat bearing bush for approximately 2 minutes (corresponds to bearing bush temperature of approximately 80°C).

Remove rubber mount.





Installation:
Front rubber mounts differ:
Rubber mount VR front right with elongated hole (1)
Rubber mount VL front left Arrows (2) on rubber mount must point in longitudinal direction of vehicle.





Coat new bearing (1) with Circo light, refer to BMW Parts Service and draw in with special tools 33 3 314 / 33 3 315 / 33 3 372 / 33 3 373 as far as it will go.
