September 2005
Technical Service

This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.M. B84 203 05 dated March 2005.

SUBJECT
"READING DATA" is Displayed in the Control Display

MODEL
E65, E66 (7 Series) from 1/03 to 6/05 production

SITUATION
The customer may complain of one or more of the following complaints:

1. The Control Display shows "READING DATA" and the phonebook from the telephone handset does not load.

2. The customer is not able to pair a Bluetooth handset during the first 2 minutes of ignition on vehicles produced from 3/05 - 6/05.

3. The telephone hands-free system cannot be used or has limited access.

4. The SOS switch LED does not flash briefly when the ignition is turned on.

5. No customer complaint. While performing a short test on the vehicle, the following faults are stored:

^ Safety Information Module (SIM), Fault Code # 9487, No communication with telephone

^ Safety Information Gateway Module (SGM), Fault Code # 93F4, No communication with telephone

CAUSE
Antenna Amplifier Tuner (AVT) software error.

PROCEDURE

Perform the following measures to determine if the AVT software is the cause of any, or all of the problems mentioned above.

1. Verify customer complaint.

2. Let the vehicle go to sleep.

3. Turn the ignition on and see if the SOS Switch LED blinks on for a second (SOS LED check).

4. If the LED blinks (at least in this power cycle), the AVT software is not the problem. Troubleshoot the eject box and TCU, refer to SI B84 06 04.

5. If the customer states that these complaints are sporadic, repeat the above steps several times.

6. If the LED does not blink when the ignition is turned on, then the problem is the AVT software.

7. If the AVT is determined to be the problem, perform the following procedure. Update the complete vehicle per SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization, Programming) Procedure B using CIP 19.01.00 (Target Data Status E065-05-09-510) or higher.
