SUBJECT
Service Action: Replace Mechatronic Adapter
MODEL
E90, E60 with 6HP19 produced 03103105 up to 03/29/05.
SITUATION
A seal installed on the adapter located between the Mechatronic and the automatic 614P19 transmission may fail prematurely. This can lead to the internal transmission fluid leakage and consequently, to deterioration of shifting characteristics. Complaints of poor shifting quality, or transmission entering the fail-safe mode, may be encountered.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves 530iA and 330iA vehicles with N52 engines and 6HPIQ ZF transmissions which were produced from 03/03/2005 through 03/29/2005
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
CORRECTION
On the affected vehicles, replace Mechatronic adapter (PN 24 34 7 536 362).
PROCEDURE
1. Transmission must be in Park position.
2. Drain and save the lifetime-fill transmission fluid (Shell M-1375.4).

3. Remove transmission's oil pan. For removal instructions refer to RA 24 11 011.
4. Remove Mechatronic unit from the transmission. For removal instructions refer to RA 24 34 562.
Important notes:
It is not necessary to disconnect shifter cable prior to Mechatronic removal (as stated in repair instructions)
5. Replace Mechatronic adapter (PN 24 34 7 536 362) # 1.
6. Reinstall Mechatronic.
Important Note:
When installing the Mechatronic unit, make sure that the selector valve (# 1) aligns correctly with the detent plate (# 2). When incorrectly installed, the no-start condition will occur. The illustration on the left shows the correct engagement.
The illustration on the left shows incorrect engagement (# 1 and # 2 not aligned). Tighten the 10 Mechatronic screws to 8 Nm.
7. Reinstall transmission oil pan using provided new seal 0-ring (PN 24 11 7 520 714), transmission oil pan gasket (PN 24 11 7 540 844) and oil plug (PN 24 11 7 520 713).
Important Note:
Torque oil pan plug to 8 Nm.
8. Refit any removed parts.
9. Check and top-up trans fluid level. For proper checking of 6HP19 fluid level, refer to RA 00 11 237. Use up to 1 liter of Shell M-1375-4 transmission fluid to top the level.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 436 After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-267) and:
a. emboss your BMW deMer warranty number in the mid~e of the label (1);
b. punch out code number 436 (2) printed on the label and,
c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
