SUBJECT
Creaking Noises from the Rear Seat Area

MODEL
E90 (3 Series) and E91 (3 Series Sports Wagon) Equipped with Fold Down Rear Seats (SA 465)

SITUATION
The customer may complain of a creaking noise from the rear seat area while driving the vehicle over poor surfaces.

CAUSE
The white plastic bushings on the outer side of the rear fold down seat backrests have too much play.

CORRECTION
In case of a customer complaint, replace the bushings with improved parts.
Note: The improved bushings have been installed on production vehicles since 11/05.

PROCEDURE





Remove both rear seat backrests per Repair Instructions RA 52 26 020.
Install modified bushing (1) into rear seat backrest
bracket (2) on the driver's and passenger's side.
Reinstall both rear seat backrests per Repair
Instructions RA 52 26 020.
