SUBJECT
Airbag Warning Lamp Illuminates - No Fault Codes
MODEL
E90, E91 (3 Series) Vehicles produced to May 31, 2006
SITUATION
The red Airbag Warning Lamp (AWL) in the instrument cluster remains illuminated after turning on KL-15 and completing the self-check, but goes out again if the key is cycled off/on. No fault codes are stored in the MRS5 (Multiple Restraint System) control module. The fault symptom occurs on a very intermittent basis.
CAUSE
Error in the MRS5 control module.
CORRECTION
In case of customer complaint, using DISPlus/GT1, check for stored faults and work through any related test modules - in particular, faults relating to bus interruptions affecting DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), CAS (Car Access System), FRM (Footwell Module) and JBE (Junction Box Electronics).
If no fault codes are shown, it can be assumed that the problem is the one described. Note: FASTA data will show FC A3B3 is stored in the Kombi (Instrument Cluster) however, this fault will not be seen using DISPlus/GT1. NEW Reprogram the vehicle using Progman V22.00.00, or higher - refer to B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization and Programming), procedure B.
