SUBJECT
Central Electronics Failure, K-CAN bus Fault Codes Stored

MODEL
E90 (3 Series) Vehicles produced to August 30, 2006

SITUATION
The red vehicle service indicator is showing in the Kombi check control (CC), together with ABS and DSC warning lamps. For vehicles with a CID, the following check control message is displayed "Central electronics failure. It is not possible to continue your journey. Contact the nearest BMW Service".

CAUSE
Connector X1716 between the main and audio wiring harness is not fully connected.

CORRECTION
For vehicles without a CID, confirm the CC message by reading the CC ID# as follows:
- Switch on terminal R or terminal 15.
- Call up the "Check-Control" function with the rocker switch on the turn signal stalk.
- Briefly press the on-board computer button.
- Select the Check-Control message required with the rocker switch.
- Press the on-board computer button for longer than 2 seconds.
- If the following appears in the bottom line of the LCD display: "CC-ID 207", continue below.

For more information on CC ID # s, refer to the "Diagnosis" attachment to SBT 61 01 04.





Check connector X1716 located in the driver's footwell near the A-pillar. Engage it correctly and secure.
