Replacing Bearing On Transmission Extension (A5S 325Z)
Transmission extension removed.
Remove transmission extension.
After completing work, top up ATF level.
Check/top up fluid level in automatic transmission, refer to 00 11 500.
Caution:
It is absolutely essential to use the approved automatic transmission fluid in this automatic transmission.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission!
Clamp special tool 24 1 220 in vise.
Fit transmission extension to the special tool.
Knock back coffer pin in grooved nut.
Installation:
Peen grooved nut to secure.
Unfasten grooved nut (1) with special tool 24 1 170.
Remove transmission extension from special tool.
Remove output flange from mounting.
Installation:
Coat sealing lip of radial seal and sealing surface of output flange with ATF.
Note: An end float of 0.15 to 0.35 mm is required between parking interlock gear and end face of output flange. End float is adjusted with help of shim (1).
Lift out circlip (1).
Remove ball ring (2).
Heat transmission extension beside bearing race to approximately 80°C (hot air blower).
Remove bearing race (3).
Installation:
First insert ball ring (4) before installing bearing race.
Caution: Axial clearance must be checked and if necessary adjusted.
Clamp transmission extension in a vise.
Press output flange in direction of arrow.
Note: Output flange must be free.
Calculate dimension (A) from collar mount to sealing face and dimension (B) from collar mount to face of output flange.
Example:
A = 10.00 mm
B = 7.50 mm
Remove shim from sprag wheel.
Press sprag wheel inwards.
Calculate dimension (E) from sealing face on transmission case to recess (1) on sprag wheel.
Example:
E = 4.00 mm

= Thickness of shim
Example:
10.00 mm
- 7.50 mm ______________
= 2.50 mm
4.00 mm
- 2.50 mm
- 0.30 mm _______________
= 1.20 mm
Install a 1.20 mm shim.
Note: Shims are available in thicknesses from 0.8 - 2.8 mm, increasing in 0.2 mm steps.
