Replacing Steering Spindle Lower Section
32 31 070 Removing and installing or replacing steering spindle lower sectionImportant:
There is no longer an end stop if the steering spindle is separated from the steering gear. The steering wheel can be turned without restriction.
To prevent the coil spring in the steering column from being damaged:
^ Move steering wheel to straight-ahead position.
^ Lock steering lock -> remove ignition key.
Important: If a screw connection is released on the universal joint, the clamping screw must be replaced and the thread in the universal joint recut!
Release clamping screw (1) and detach lower section of steering spindle (2) from steering gear.
Installation:
Move steering gear to straight-ahead position.
Joining the lower section of the steering spindle in the steering gear is only possible in one position.
Recut thread and replace clamping screw.
Release clamping screw (1).
Pull lower section of steering spindle downwards and remove.
Installation:
Joining the lower section of the steering spindle in the steering column is only possible in one position.
During installation, make sure universal joint is correctly seated.
Recut thread and replace clamping screw.
Tightening torque, 32 31 lAZ.
