Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair

34 41 220 Removing and installing/replacing all handbrake shoes





Special tools required:
^ 32 1 030
^ 34 4 000





Note: Remove rear brake disk.

Installation: After completing tasks, adjust handbrake.





Unclip handbrake lever trim (1) at rear and tilt forwards.
Lock adjuster unit (ASZE).
Use special tool 32 1 030 to press back the stop (2) of the adjusting spring until the restraining hook (3) snaps into place in the stop (2).

Disconnect return spring (1) with brake spring pliers.
Installation:
Check return spring (1), replace if necessary.
Figure illustrates right side: left side is mirror image of this.
Pay attention to installation position of adjustment screw (2).
Apply a thin coat of grease to bush and screw threads,
Refer to BMW Service Operating Fluids.

Disconnect return spring (1) with brake spring pliers.
Installation: Check return spring (1), replace if necessary.





Turn clamping pins (1) with special tool 34 4 000 through 90° and disconnect.
Remove brake shoes (2).
