Replacing A Rubber Mount In Trailing Arm at Front
Caution: Perform axle alignment check after assembly.
Remove wheel.
Detach bracket for brake hose on trailing arm.
Unclip cable on trailing arm.
Caution: The brake hose must not be exposed to traction loads.
Remove panel for fuel tank.
Mark position of bearing pedestal (1) to body (2) with colored mark (3); this simplifies subsequent toe-in adjustment.
Support trailing arm from underneath using a workshop lifter.
Release bolts, lower workshop lifter and pull trailing arm downwards.
Installation:
Tightening torque, refer to Technical Data 33 32 13AZ.
Note: Damaged threads in bushes on body side can be repaired with Helicoil thread inserts M 12 X 1.5 X 18. Install Helicoil thread inserts flush with original thread.
Release nut, unscrew bolt and remove bearing pedestal.
Installation:
With special tool: Secure special tool 33 3 280 to bearing pedestal with a screw and align to wheel center. Screw bearing pedestal down in this position.
Tightening torque, refer to Technical Data 33 32 12AZ.
Installation:
Without special tool:
Place a tube (1) (length = approximately 500 mm, dia. = 16 mm) flat against bearing pedestal, secure if necessary with screw clamp and align center of tube to center of wheel.
Screw bearing pedestal down in this position.
Tightening torque, refer to Technical Data 33 32 12AZ.
Measure gap (A) with a feeler gauge and note value.
Attach special tool 00 8 550 to openings on rubber mount and pull out rubber mount with special tools 33 3 324 / 340.
Installation:
Observe installation position of rubber mount.
Rubber mount and trailing arm eye must be free of grease.
Draw in new rubber mount with special tools 33 3 222 / 223 / 314 and M12 nut (1) to the previously determined gap (A).
