Drivability Complaints Check Engine Lamp Illuminated and Various Throttle
Potentiometer Faults Stored in DME Memory

Complaint

Customer complains that the vehicle exhibits a lack of acceleration the check engine lamp is illuminated and one or all of the following fault codes are stored in DME Memory:

FC 118 Throttle Position Sensor 1
FC 119 Throttle Position Sensor 2
FC 120 Cross Check Throttle Position Sensors
FC 121 Both Throttle Position Sensors Failure
FC 230 Throttle Position Sensor Failure

Cause

The Basic Throttle Setting is not calibrated properly, a defective EDR Throttle Actuator Position Sensor 1 (Y5392) or a defective Throttle Position Sensor 2 (R6252) located at the front of the throttle valve shaft.

Measure

1. Check Basic Throttle Setting adjustment as per TIS Repair Instruction 13 54 010 and correct as necessary.

2. Use Diagnosis Requests to determine if throttle position values are correct. If the values are not within specification then check electrical connections and replace the affected sensor.
