Service Procedure

1. [NEW] Contact BMW Assist and select option 4. Ask the BMW Assist Customer Care staff member to check the customer's account. If the customer has opted out of BMW Assist and the contract has expired no further action is required. If the customer's account is still active, proceed to step two.

2. Install a battery charger and connect an OPS/OPPS head.

3. Remove the handset from the vehicle prior to this procedure.





4. The vehicle must be in the Verizon Wireless Network for this procedure to work properly. If the vehicle is not in the Verizon Wireless Network, complete and fax the TCU Reactivation form shown and create a PuMA case. Send the TCU (FEDEX only) along with a copy of the returned form and PuMA case to:

5. Start PROGMAN and start a new session.





6. Select the model series you are working on.





7. Select the vehicle you are working on.





8. Once the Vehicle Order has been read out then select "Load SW".





9. Answer "NO" to "Have control modules been replaced on the car?"

10. If a "Status Report" is then displayed indicating control modules need updating, this needs to be performed prior to this retrofit procedure.





11. Select the Retrofits button.





12. Select "Activate/Deactiv. PVC" from the list of conversions.





13. Select "Activate"





14. Select "Start" to start the retrofit procedure.





15. Once the coding procedure is finished the system prompts to remove the OPS/OPPS optical cable prior to continuing.





16. The "Final Report" will then be displayed. Select "Finish".

17. Once back at the "Retrofits" screen, do not cancel out of CIP. Leave CIP at this screen.

18. Turn the ignition off for approximately 4-5 minutes or until the drivers switch block LED goes out.





19. Turn key back on and select the communication menu on the Central Information Display CID.

20. Select Phone.





21. Select Dial.





22. Select *22890 and then Dial number.





23. The call will last approximately 1 minute and the system will prompt you through the audio system that "Programming is complete".





24. Reconnect the OPPS/OPS optical cable.

25. Select "Activate/Deactiv. PVC" from the list of retrofits.





26. Select "Deactivate"





27. Select "Start" once the measure plan has been determined.





28. Once the coding procedure is finished the system prompts to remove the OPS/OPPS optical cable prior to continuing.





29. Once the "Final Report" is displayed select "Finish" and end the CIP session.

30. Turn the ignition off for approximately 4-5 minutes or until the drivers switch block LED goes out.

31. Reinitialize BMW Assist as per SI B84 15 03.

32. Place a test call to verify the system is working properly.

Troubleshooting

In cases where the reactivation process fails, check the following:

1. The process was followed exactly as outlined above.

2. The vehicle is in a good mobile phone reception area.

3. The TCU is connected to the vehicle and is without faults stored.

4. If problems continue, complete and fax the "TCU Reactivation Form" and circle "MIN Verification". BMW Aftersales will respond to the request either by phone or fax.
