SUBJECT
Service Action: N62 Reprogramming for Incorrect Oil Service Interval
MODEL
[NEW] E60, E63, E64 with N62 produced from 09/01/04 up to 03/10/05
SITUATION
Due to DME software error, an incorrect CBS oil service indication may be displayed.
Two scenarios are possible:
^ Oil Service notification is displayed prematurely, with quite low vehicle mileage,
or
^ Oil Service notification is not displayed at all, with the actual vehicle mileage exceeding normal oil change interval.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
[NEW]This Service Action involves 545i, 645Ci and 645Cic vehicles, with N62 engines, which were produced from 09/01/2004 up to 03/10/2005.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System).
Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
CORRECTION
On the affected vehicles, reprogram/recode control modules with SSS loaded with CIP 17.1 or higher. After programming, using DIS/GT1, perform CBS data correction/reset as described in the procedure below.
PROCEDURE
^ Reprogram and recode the affected vehicles using Software Service Station loaded with CIP 17.1, or higher. For programming/coding instructions refer to SIB 09 05 01 Coding / Individualization / Programming), Procedure "B".
^ After programming/coding is completed, perform CBS data reset/correction using DIS/GT1 loaded with DIS CD 41, or higher with online update "UPD-DIS: CBS correction error_ME9.2.2" (this update is also valid for DIS CD 42.0).
^ After automatic determination, select: Function Selection, Service Functions, Maintenance, and then Test plans.
^ From the list of test plans, first select and execute: "CBS engine oil functionality error S1214_RESBODME", to delete adaptation values.
^ Then, select test plan "CBS Reset SCBS 6003", following by [1]
"Engine oil" to clear incorrect CBS data.
^ Finally, select test plan "CBS correction of vehicle date SCBS 6004", following by [1] "Engine oil". Calculate the correction factor (in %) using the attached "B121105 CBS correction" table (with example included).
Enter the correction factor into the test module.
NOTE:
If the nominal oil change interval (15,000 miles) has been exceeded without service notification, an oil service has to be performed immediately. In such a case, do not perform CBS correction (test plan "SCBS 6004"). After the oil service, reset the CBS data only (test plan "SCBS 6003").
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number
442. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected
if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-278) and:
a. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in
the middle of the label (1);
b. punch out code number 442 printed on the label
(2) and,
c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Reimbursement for this Service Action will be via Campaign Entry.
