Removal and Replacement

12 41 020 - Removing and installing/replacing starter motor





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Switch off ignition.
- Disconnect battery negative lead from battery.
Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery Instructions for Disconnecting and Connecting Battery.
- Remove reinforcement plate Service and Repair.





Version with ARS:
Release nut (1) and remove pressure lines (2).
Release screws (3) and remove holder (4)





Unscrew nut (1).
Tightening torque 12 41 4AZ 12 41 Starter and Mounting Parts.
Disconnect battery positive lead from starter motor.





Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 12 41 1AZ 12 41 Starter and Mounting Parts.
Pull starter motor out of transmission mount and turn in order to facilitate access to control leads on starter motor.





Unscrew nuts (1).
Tightening torque 12 41 4AZ 12 41 Starter and Mounting Parts.
Detach control leads (2) from starter motor.
Remove starter motor.





Installation:
Check starter pinion and ring gear for damage, replace starter motor if necessary.
