Removing and Installing/Replacing Aerial Amplifier (Security) (Diversity)




65 20 090 - Removing and installing/replacing aerial amplifier (Security) (diversity)





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove rear right head restraint Removing and Installing/Replacing Left or Right Rear Head Restraint
- Remove panel for roof pillar at rear left Removing and Installing/Replacing Trim for Rear Left or Right Roof Pillar (Front)
- Remove auxiliary brake light Service and Repair

Note:
Aerial amplifier is bonded to armor plating under moulded rooflining and connected via 6 coded plug-in contacts with rear window aerial leads. Rear window aerial leads are designed loose and fitted with plug connectors.





Note:
For purposes of clarity, illustration shows moulded rooflining removed. Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect. Disconnect plug connections (2) for rear window aerial leads and secure loose leads to rear window with adhesive tape (e.g. Tesa).





If necessary, remove fabric adhesive tape (1) from plug connections for TV aerial leads.

Installation:
Wrap fabric adhesive tape round plug connections for TV aerial leads again.





Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect. Detach negative lead (2) at C-pillar.

Important!
Do not kink moulded rooflining (3).

If necessary, pull rooflining (3) down a little.





Position fold scraper with blade (20 mm) between armor plating (1) and adhesive tape (2), carefully pull aerial amplifier (3) downwards and drive fold scraper forward in-between. Remove aerial amplifier (3).

Installation:
Aerial amplifier is bonded to armor plating with 2 x 2 -ply double-sided assembly adhesive tape* (length 360 mm). * Sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service





Before bonding, clean bonding surfaces (board, smooth side, and armor plating, moulded rooflining) with spirit or isopropyl alcohol (air drying time 10 mins.).





Replacement:
Only in conjunction with 2 x 2 -ply double-sided assembly adhesive tape* (length 360 mm) and rear window aerial wiring harness*. Remove aerial amplifier plastic covers. Remove 6 spring contacts (1) on strip conductor side with soldering iron. Solder 6 new cables in place of aerial amplifier spring contacts (3) with insulation overlapping (2).
