Replacing Both Gaiters on Left and Right of Output Shaft

Replacing Both Gaiters on Left and Right of Output Shaft
Remove output shaft.

Use rubber gaiter repair kit.

Clean output shaft.

Grip output shaft in vise with protective jaws.

Release hose clips (1) and (2).

Pull back rubber gaiter (3).

Caution:
In order to avoid output shaft out-of-balance during operation, make sure constant velocity joint is reinstalled in same position.
Therefore: Mark relative position of transmission-side constant velocity joint to section tube with a suitable felt-tip pen.

Withdraw constant velocity joint (1) from section tube (2).

Pull off rubber gaiters (1) and (2) over splined shaft. Carefully clean all parts with a cloth.

Note: Check constant velocity joint for damage. Length of gaiter (1) 65 mm. Length of gaiter (2) 55 mm.

Note: Profile shaft and sealing surface of gaiters on constant velocity joints must be absolutely free of grease. The gaiter could otherwise slip off when the hose clamps are tightened down on the constant velocity joint.

Regrease constant velocity joints up to top edge.

Note: New grease in repair kit.

Push both gaiters onto profile tube.

Regrease linear displacement unit and slide constant velocity joint (1) into section tube (2).

Caution: Pay attention to installation position, felt-tip pen marking. Slide both gaiters into assembly position at recess of profile tube (2).

Caution: To ensure uniform lubrication, push in constant velocity joint as far as it will go and then pull out again up to measurement A = approximately 16 mm.

Push both gaiters onto constant velocity joints and tighten down with hose clamps.

Note: On transmission-side constant velocity joint, hose clamp fastener (1) must be flush with rivet (2) on flange.

Install hose clamp fasteners on transmission-side and wheel side constant velocity joint offset by 180 degrees.

Check that gaiters are securely seated.
