A5S 325Z Transmission

Remove/Replacing Shift Unit (A5S 325Z)

Note: After completing work, top up ATF level. Check/top up fluid level in automatic transmission, refer to 00 11 500.

Remove transmission sump, refer to 24 11 003.

Remove/replace transmission fluid screen, refer to 2431 151.

Caution:
It is absolutely essential to use the approved automatic transmission fluid in this automatic transmission, refer to BMW Operating Fluids MG 24.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission.





Remove retaining clip with screwdriver (2).

Insert transmission plug (1) in transmission.





Installation:
To facilitate assembly, coat O-ring with Vaseline.





Release screws (1).

Remove pulse generator (2).

Pull off connector (3).





Unfasten screws.

Take off valve body.
Tightening torque, refer to Technical Data 24 30 1 AZ.

Note: As of February 2000, different Torx T40 screws (other width A/F) will be fitted for clear identification of shift unit retaining screws.





Installation:

Coat O-rings (1) with automatic transmission fluid.





Caution: Journal (1) of detent disk must be located in groove (2) of slide valve.
