Fuel Rail: Service and Repair

13 53 240 Replacing Complete Injection Pipe (M56)


Special Tools Required:
-


Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Switch off ignition


Recycling
Fuel in fuel lines is under pressure (approx. 3-5 bar).
Fuel escapes when fuel lines are detached. Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

- Remove microfilter.






- Open cable duxt on lower section of microfilter housing (2) and feed out cable(s).

- Release screws (1) and remove lower section of microfilter housing (2).






- Remove engine cover.

NOTE:
Removal is described seperately from installation

Removal:






- Unclip plug connections (1 and 2) from holders.

- Remove holders from plug connections (2).

- Unlock and detach vent hose (3).

- Unlock and detach terminal strip (4).

Caution!
Catch and dispose of fuel as it escapes.

- Release fuel line (5).

- Slacken union nuts along line.

- Unfasten screws.






- Lift out injection pipe (1).






NOTE:
Union nut (1) and injector (2) cannot be seperated.

- Release union nut (1) and remove injector (2).


NOTE:
This procedure is applicable to all injectors.


Installation:






- Initially tighten union nut (1) loosely.

NOTE:
This procedure is applicable to all injectors.






- Push special tool 13 1 142 onto injector.






- Install injection pipe (1).

- Install and tighten down screws.






- Push special tool 13 1 141 onto plug connections of injectors.

- Tighten down union nuts along line.

- Tightening torque:






- Unfasten screws.

- Lift out injection pipe (1).






- Detach special tool 13 1 142 from injector.






- Install injection pipe (1).

- Install and tighten down screws.






- Tighten down fuel line (5).

- Tightening torque:

- Push on terminal strip (4) until it snaps audibly into place.

- Push on vent hose (3).

- Install holders for plug connections (2).

- Push plug connections (1 and 2) into holders.
