Replacing Drive Flange on Rear Differential (168K to 230K)

Important: Observe safety instructions for raising the vehicle.
After installation:
^ Changing rear differential oil
Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Remove output shaft from rear differential, lay to one side or tie up
Place a plastic mallet in position and knock out drive flange with another hammer.
Install retaining ring (1).
Installation:
Press in drive flange further until retaining ring (1) locates audibly.
Insert drive flange and rotate until spline on flange meshes with teeth on differential bevel gear.
Coat drive flange at contact face of shaft seal with approved rear differential oil.
Clean shaft seal race on drive flange thoroughly.
Only if the retaining ring was fitted in the rear differential: twist retaining ring until both ends settle into the groove.
If necessary, press off large dust cover.
If necessary, press off small dust cover.
Replace shaft seal.
