Loss of Power at High Altitudes and High Ambient Temperatures
MODEL
E83 (X3) vehicles produced prior to February 16, 2004
SITUATION
When driving at higher altitudes (5,000+ feet) and in temperatures exceeding 80 degrees F, certain X3 vehicles may experience a loss of performance.
CAUSE
Pockets of fuel vapor may be created within the fuel pump causing a vapor lock condition. The cause is the higher rotational speed of the fuel pumps installed in vehicles built prior to 02/16/2004.
CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, replace the fuel pump with P/N 16 11 7 159 604.
