Replacing Left or Right Swivel Bearing


Caution!
Align/adjust front axle after assembly.

Warning! Collar nut must be locked by caulking at flat areas of output shaft!





Remove wheel.
Release collar nut on output shaft; operate brake to do so.

Installation:
Replace collar nut.
Tie Rod/axle joint to track 110 + 10 Nm
Lock collar nut by caulking at flat areas of output shaft.
Remove brake disk.
Remove ABS pulse generator.





Unfasten nut.
Press off tie rod with special tool 32 3 090.

Installation:
Tapered spigot and bore both free of grease.
Replace self-locking nut.
Brace on hexagon socket if necessary.
Tie rod end nut 36.5 ±3.5 Nm
Note: Tie rod end with split-pin hole must not be bolted with a self locking nut.





Screw on special tool 33 2 111/116/117 with 5 wheel studs (1).
Press output shaft out of drive flange; grip with tire iron (2) in so doing.

Installation:
Lightly oil output shaft splines and insert into drive flange splines.





Screw on special tool 33 2 118.

Installation:





Screw on special tool 33 2 116 with 5 wheel studs (1).
Install output shaft with special tool 33 2 115, gripping with tire iron in so doing.
Remove control arm from front axle support.
Remove swivel bearing from spring strut.





Unfasten nut.
Force control arm off swivel bearing with special tool 31 3090.

Installation:
Tapered spigot and bore both free of grease.
Replace self-locking nut.
Control arm on steering knuckle/swivel bearing 80 Nm





Clamp swivel bearing with aluminum clamping jaws in vise.
Secure special tool 33 2 116 to drive flange with 5 wheel studs.
Drive out drive flange with special tool 33 4 200.

Caution!
The wheel bearing is destroyed when the drive flange is removed and must not be reused!

If necessary, detach bearing inner race from drive flange.





Remove dust sleeve (1) and brake guard plate (2) and install on new swivel bearing.
Install new wheel bearing in swivel bearing.
