Intake Manifold: Service and Repair
11 61 050 Removing and installing air intake manifold (M56)
Necessary preliminary tasks:
Disconnect negative battery lead.
Remove suction-filter housing.
Remove intake pipe.
Remove microfilter.
Open cable duct on lower section of microfilter housing (2) and feed out cable(s).
Release screws (1) and remove lower section of microfilter housing (2).
Remove engine cover.
Unclip plug connections (1 and 2) from holders.
Unlock and detach vent hose (3).
Unlock and detach terminal strip (4).
Release nut on battery positive lead.
Instructions for removing and installing fuel hoses.
Caution! Catch and dispose of fuel as it escapes.
Release fuel line (1).
Release screws and detach injection pipe (2) towards top.
Unlock and detach plug connection (1).
Release vacuum line (2).
Release screw on oil dipstick guide tube (3)
and turn guide tube (3) to one side.
Pull off sealing strip (1) towards top.
Turn fasteners (1) through 90° and release.
Detach electrical leads with profile seals from assembly compartment partition wall towards top.
Remove assembly compartment partition wall (2) towards top.
Installation:
Check installation position of profile seal.
Remove throttle assembly.
Unclip plug connection (1) for knock sensors from holder.
Release nut (2) on manifold support.
Illustrations show M54:
Release nuts on manifold.
Lift air intake manifold, feed out battery positive lead and unlock and detach plug connection for coolant temperature sensor.
Remove intake air manifold.
Installation:
Check gaskets on all cylinders and replace if necessary
