Refer to the chart below to verify that a CDMA TCU is installed in the vehicle being repaired. Confirm the model and the production date.
INFORMATION
All CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) replacement units from parts are deactivated and must be activated before handing over the vehicle to the customer. This is not related to the customers BMW Assist account status being active. In order for BMW Assist to work properly, the replacement procedure outlined below must be carried out.
PROCEDURE
1. Verify the account status by calling 1-888-333-6118, option #4.
^ If the account is still active, please proceed to step 2.
^ If the account has expired, contact the customer and advise him or her of his or her Assist account status. If he or she would like to re-enroll in BMW Assist Services, a new ESA agreement must be completed. Also, refer to SI B 84 15 03 to reactivate the TCU. This SIB no longer applies to the situation.
2. After receiving the replacement TCU from Parts, the technician must obtain a new MIN (Mobile Identification Number) and MDN (Mobile Directory Number) by performing the following:
^ Open the form above, fill in the information, and then fax the completed form to the Telematics Analyst at 201-307-3707. The Telematics Analyst will provide new MIN and MDN numbers for the new TCU. This may take up to 3 hours during normal business hours (8:30 AM to 4:30 PM EST).
^ If the customer is waiting, the tech can contact the Telematics Analyst directly by calling 201-307-4347 to expedite the process, once the form has been faxed.
3. Install, program, and code the replacement TCU using ISTA/P.
4. Once the new MIN and MDN numbers are received from the Telematics Analyst, they must be written into the TCU.
5. Select "Activities / Information Search / Function Structure / Body / Audio, Video, Telephone, Navigation (MOST Ring) / Telecommunications / Start Search."
6. Select the test plan "AT8400_SYSTEL - Check of telecommunications system," which must be used to write the new MIN and MDN numbers in the replacement TCU.
7. Also, verify that the following numbers entered in the TCU are correct, using test plan AT8400_SYSTEL:
^ Center phone number - Your service center number
^ Hotline number - 1-800-332-4269
^ Breakdown number - 1-800-332-4269
^ If the numbers listed above were not entered, write them in the TCU, following the instructions in test plan AS8400_0012.
8. Refer to SI B 84 15 03 to perform the "Initialization of the BMW Assist Services."
9. Perform a test call using the SOS button to verify the system is functioning correctly. Verify that Assist receives both the voice and data transmission.
