Audio System - Poor FM Band Radio Reception

SUBJECT
Z4 - Poor FM Radio Reception

MODEL
E85 (Z4) with DSP amplifier (option 677)

From start of production up to [NEW] 05/2003

SITUATION
The Top Hi-Fi Sound System (option 677) has poor radio reception on the FM band only.

CAUSE1
Water in the DSP amplifier plug connector

CAUSE2
DSP amplifier software

CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, remove the DSP amplifier plug connector, and carefully examine both male and female connectors for corrosion caused by water.

^ If corrosion is found (cause1), identify and correct the source of the water leak. Clean and/or replace electrical terminals/DSP amplifier (as necessary) in order to restore full functionality of the DSP amplifier.

^ If corrosion is not found (cause2), replace the DSP amplifier with SW # 09 or later.

Refer to repair instruction RA 6512072, Removing and installing (replacing) the DSP amplifier (Top hi- fi sound system).

To open the Repair Instruction, go in TIS to Repair Information, select "Z' E85" and a model. Then select "Search for document title" and enter "amplifier". The path "Search for document numbers" is not working at the moment.

Use this labor operation number when the only repair performed is the listed warranty repair.

Use this labor operation number when other repairs or services are performed along with the listed warranty repair.
Under no circumstances should both labor operation numbers be claimed.
Attempts to claim both times will result in an unnecessary delay in claim processing and payment.
