Replacing Radial Seal For Selector Shaft
Note: After completion of work, check transmission oil level.
Caution:
^ Use only the approved gear oil in this manual transmission.
^ Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the transmission.
Shift transmission into 2nd gear.
Remove engine underguard at rear.
Remove complete exhaust system.
E46 S54
Remove catalytic converter and intermediate pipes.
Remove heat shield (1).
Remove heat shield on left and right.
Unflange propeller shaft and tie back to one side.
Unclip cable for oxygen sensors and reversing light switch on cross-member.
Support transmission with a workshop hoist.
Release screws and remove cross-member.
Remove shift rod joint from selector shaft.
Screw in special tool 23 0 210 until it is firmly connected to radial seal (1).
Pull out radial seal with special tool 23 0 210.
Coat sealing lips of radial seal and selector shaft with gear oil.
Drive in radial seal as far as it will go with special tool 230220.
