Noises from Window Regulator
MODEL
3 Series E46 Coupe, Convertible
SITUATION
B46 coupes and convertibles produced before 10/03, may exhibit creaking or clicking from the door window area during operation or when driving on a rough surface.
CAUSE
The nuts holding the window regulator to the door may have loosened, allowing movement of the regulator attachment points against the door.
CORRECTION
The retaining nuts have been improved and the tightening torque was increased as of 10/03 production.
In case of a customer complaint, the improved nuts may be installed on earlier production vehicles.

PROCEDURE
Note:
This procedure must be performed on both doors.
Remove the inner trim panel per Repair Instructions, section 51 41 000
Carefully peel the vapor barrier (1) away from the door only in the area of the four outer attaching nuts. It is not necessary to remove the entire vapor barrier. Replace the four nuts (2), one at a time, and tighten to 9.5 Nm. Re-adhere the vapor barrier to the door. If necessary, use a heat gun to warm the butyl to ensure a good seal.
