Replacing Shaft Seal For Drive Flange, Left Or Right

Note: After completion of work, check transmission oil level.

Caution: Use the approved gear oil in this final drive.

Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the final drive.

Warning!: Risk of burning from exhaust system!





Release screws.

Tightening torque, refer to Differential Assembly, Specifications.

Remove output shaft from drive flange.

Installation:
Fit shims (1).





Use a plastic mallet to drive out drive flange.





Caution: Replace snap ring (1).

Coat drive flange on contact face of shaft seal with final drive oil.

Push in drive flange and turn until flange splines engage splines of differential.

Press in drive flange further until snap ring can be heard to snap into place.





Withdraw shaft seal with special tools 00 5 010 and 32 1 060.





Coat housing plate flange and sealing lips of new shaft seal with differential oil.

Drive in new shaft seal with special tools 00 5 500 and 33 4 240 as far as it will go.
