Removal and Replacement

51 71 406 Removing And Installing/Replacing Rear Spoiler (Z3 Coupe, M Coupe)

NOTE:
- To bond windshield:
- Adhesives for cold and hot working are permitted.
- Remove auxiliary brake light (complete).

Cold processing:
Follow rear spoiler gluing instructions.







Warm processing:
If necessary, open aluminum membrane at rear end of cartridge.
Place cartridge in cartridge oven.
Heat glue cartridges to 80 °C for one hour in oven (Sourcing Reference: BMW Parts Service).
Follow rear spoiler gluing instructions.







Open trunk lid.
Lever out covers (1) and release nuts.

Installation:
2AZ Rear spoiler
M6 6 Nm







Raise rear spoiler at bottom slightly;
with a scalpel (1) for heavy-duty applications.
cut through four gluing points.







Feed out cable (1) for auxiliary brake light and remove rear spoiler (2).







If reusing the rear window (2), immediately prior to installation:
Remove residual adhesive (1) on rear window (2) with a heavy-duty scalpel at four gluing points (1) to approx. 0.5 mm.

CAUTION:
- Clean freshly cut residual bead with spirit only.
- under no circumstances use Sika bonding agent 205/5 or BMW Cleaner.







If reusing the rear spoiler (1), immediately prior to installation:
Remove residual adhesive (2) on rear spoiler (1) with a scalpel for heavy-duty applications at four gluing points (2) to approx. 0.5 mm.

CAUTION:
- Clean freshly cut residual bead with spirit only.
- under no circumstances use Sika bonding agent 205/5 or BMW Cleaner.







In event of a new rear window (2) or complete removal of residual adhesive:
Position rear spoiler on rear window and mark adhesive area with crepe tape.
Treat rear window (2) at marked areas (1) with BMW-approved materials (repair kit, sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).

NOTE: Note ventilation time:

Cut nozzle:
(A) 3 mm

NOTE: For an even application of adhesive bead:







Use a cartridge gun (operated pneumatically or electrically, sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).
Check expiry date of glue:
If necessary, apply a test bead before gluing.

CAUTION:
- Apply adhesive promptly and install rear spoiler.
- Skin formation time of glue, maximum 10 minutes.







Secure three screws against falling out.
Apply adhesive bead centrally to supports (1) on rear spoiler (2).
Shape of adhesive bead:
(A) Dia 3 mm
(B) 15 mm

Align rear spoiler, screw down and locate in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
