Glove Compartment Lock: Service and Repair



51 16 340 Removing And Installing/Replacing Lock For Glovebox, Right (Z3 Roadster, M Roadster, Z3 Coupe, M Coupe)







Only US version:
Unfasten screws (1) and remove upper (2) and lower sections of lock.







Only replacement (US version):
Insert vehicle key in lock cylinder (2).
Break open locks (1) if necessary and pull out lock cylinder (2) with vehicle key.

CAUTION:
- Do not pull on vehicle key.
- Do not pull vehicle key out of removed lock cylinder (retainers and springs would drop out of lock cylinder).


Installation:
Perform function check on removed lock.

NOTE: The operation "Removing and installing/replacing glovebox lock" for US version ends here.







Unfasten screws (1) and remove lock (2).







Only replace:

NOTE: The lock cylinder (1) must remain in open position.

Clamp lock in vise. Drive out pin with punch (2) until handle (3) can be pulled upwards and removed.







Insert vehicle key in lock cylinder (2).
Break open locks (1) if necessary and pull out lock cylinder (2) with vehicle key.

CAUTION:
- Do not pull vehicle key.
- Do not pull vehicle key out of removed lock cylinder (retainers and springs would drop out of lock cylinder).








Installation:
Insert lock cylinder with aperture (1) in groove (2) of locking disc.

Installation:
Perform function check on removed lock.
