Power Steering Bleeding: Service and Repair
Fill and BleedPower steering/hydraulic level control: visually inspect for leaks and fluid level, top up fluid if necessary.
Visual inspection and leak test:
- Check connections, hoses and steering gear for traces of fluid.
Check fluid level:
- With engine switched off, check fluid level in expansion tank of power steering/level control system; if necessary top up hydraulic fluid to max. mark (1).
Note:
- If the fluid level has dropped to the min. mark (2), check the power steering/level control system for leaks. It is not enough merely to top up the fluid.
Bleeding power steering unit
Caution:
Before removing the oil tank cap, clean the tank and its immediate vicinity thoroughly. No dirt is allowed to enter the system.
1. Topping up when engine stationary:
Fill oil tank until level reaches "MAX" mark on dipstick.
2. Bleeding:
Start engine.
Turn steering wheel twice each as far as left and right lock.
3. Oil level check with engine off:
Top up hydraulic fluid to "MAX".
