(A5S 360R/390R, 4WD)

Note: After completion of work, check transmission oil level.

Caution! Use only the approved automatic transmission fluid in this automatic transmission.

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission!

Remove and install transfer case.





Release screws on extension (1), refer to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Specifications.

Detach extension.

E53:





Replace gasket (1) between transmission housing and end cover.
Insert new sealing ring (2) in groove in output shaft.

E46 4WD:





Replace gasket (1) between transmission housing and end cover.

Fit slip sleeve (2) and mount end cover.

Note: Slip sleeve (2) is a constituent part of repair kit.





Grip extension (1) in vise with protective jaws.

Lever out radial seal (2) using a screwdriver (3) and a block of wood (4) as support.





Drive in radial seal with special tools 23 1 380 and 00 5 500 until flush.
