SUBJECT:
Creaking, Squeaking, Clicking Noises From Window Regulator

MODEL:
X5

Situation:
Some X5 customers may complain of a noise that seems to come from the front door window or door seals. Many of the noises may be traced to the window regulator installed in cars produced prior to 5/00.

The regulator rails used in the early style regulator were galvanized to prevent corrosion, but the relatively rough surface of the rails would cause noise from the plastic sliders as the window operated.

Correction:
The window regulators used in production since 5/00 are coated with black plastic to reduce friction between the sliders and the rails, as well as the lift cables and the rails.

In case of customer complaint, verify the source of the noise, and if it is determined that the regulator is the source, replace the affected regulator with the new style unit per Repair Manual, section 51 33 000

Parts Information:

The part numbers of the new style regulators have been superseded.

Warranty Information:

Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
