March 2001

SUBJECT:
Clicking Noise From Upper Belt Mount

MODEL:
X5

SITUATION:
Some owners of X5s built prior to 10/2000 may complain of a clicking noise from the area of the upper belt mount on the B-pillar.

CAUSE:
The plastic B-pillar trim can contact the head of the upper seat belt bolt.

CORRECTION:
In case of customer complaint on vehicles produced prior to 10/2000, remove both B-pillar trims to gain access to the mounting bolts on both the driver's and passenger's belts.

Wrap one piece of felt tape (p/n 61 13 8 357 831) over the head of the bolt as illustrated.

Wrap a second piece of felt tape around the head of the bolt as illustrated. Push down the edges of the tape so that it fits tightly to the bolt.
