Removing And Installing/Replacing Front Seat Belt
CAUTION:
Note safety regulations for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners.
Inexpert handling can trigger off the airbag or the belt tensioner and thus cause injury.
The plug connections for the pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners are no longer marked "Orange"!
To remove and install the seat belt, it is necessary to remove and install the front seat.
Remove panel for door pillar (top),
Remove and install rear left or right side trim panel (Coupe).
Remove and install/replace panel for left or right door pillar (top).
If the pyrotechnical seat belt tensioner is removed and installed or replaced, the front seat must be removed and installed.
Remove and install left or right front seat.
NOTE: If a seat belt which is damaged due to an accident is exchanged, always check the seat belt retaining bracket on the seat runner for damage (bending) and replace if necessary.
A bent seatbelt tensioner retaining bracket on the seat runner may make it impossible to adjust the height of the seat!
NOTE: If a seat belt which is damaged due to an accident is exchanged, always check the slide bar (6) for damage (bending) and replace if necessary.
1 = Protective cap
2 = Screw securing slide bar to body
Tightening Torque, Seat belt on body, except for B-pillar 31 Nm.
3 = Rosette
4 = Spacer sleeve
5 = Strap
6 = Slide bar
Unscrew bracket.
To do so, release both screws.
Release screw.
Remove reversing clip.
Installation Note Tightening Torque, Seat belt at belt height adjustment (reversing clip) 31 Nm.
If necessary, remove seatbelt height adjustment.
To do so, move seatbelt height adjustment so that both retaining screws are accessible.
Release both screws.
Installation Note Tightening Torque, Screws for seatbelt height adjustment on body 24 Nm.
Release screw.
Installation Note: Tightening Torque, Seat belt on body, except for B-pillar 48 Nm.
Remove automatic reels.
Installation Note:
Coding (1) of automatic reels must be situated in opening (2) of body.
Retaining screw (3) locates automatic reel in position.
Open cable strap for plug of pyrotechnical belt tensioner (2).
Detach end cap and plug for pyrotechnical belt tensioner (1).
Release screw (3) and remove pyrotechnical belt tensioner.
Installation:
Replace microencapsulated screw.
Tightening Torque for screw (3), Seat belt on body, except for B-pillar 48 Nm.
Replace cable strap for plug of pyrotechnical belt tensioner. Plug of pyrotechnical belt tensioner must not be under strain.
Installation Note: Make sure that holder for cable of pyrotechnical belt tensioner/seatbelt buckle contact is in correct position.
Check retaining bracket (1) of pyrotechnical belt tensioner on seat runner for damage (bending), replace if necessary.
Repair kit, refer to BMW Parts Service.
To replace retaining bracket, release screw (2) and remove retaining bracket (1).
